June is the classic wedding month. They say a June bride is a bride for all her life and the one who wears pearls remains happily married forever.

Pearls are super stylish and sophisticated. Pair them up with every ensemble and here you are all set to stun the world. It is hard to describe the charm of these stunning organic gems that are born inside the body of a mollusk.

Michelle Obama on her Fashion Style

First Lady Michelle Obama is loved for her classic sense of fashion as much as she loved for her social activism.

This Wednesday she appeared with Today’s Matt Laurer to discuss variety of topics ranging from her husband’s ongoing fight against child obesity and the fact that he has now quit smoking. And as the interview proceeded, came the topic of her sartorial decisions.

Michelle Obama H&M dress

Along with many designers such as Peter Pinto, Jason Wu, Isabel Toledo, First Lady also bought the fashion of wearing pearl strands and brooches back in vogue. On this particular occasion she was wearing a very feminine polka dress from a not so fancy named designer, but an just an off the rack H&M dress worth just $34.95.

When she was asked about the public fascination of her personal style, she said that she takes it as a compliment and she also explained, “It's not something I focus on ... Everybody's got to get dressed in the morning and put on something. I hope people find it nice, but it's not something I focus on.”

Obama said that it is practicality, more than anything that decides what she will be wearing, "It's really just sort of, how cold is it? Do I have to stand outside, and what am I going to use to cover my arms if I'm freezing so I'm not shivering while I have to give a speech? It's really stuff like that.”

There is nothing more constant than change. What can be more applicable to this rule than fashion and trends, that are constantly subject to changes. It's interesting how, at the beginning of every year, we fashion fanatics make a beeline for any information that we can lay hands on about what trends the new season will bring. Without building up the suspense anymore, let me share with you what styles 2009 has ushered in.

Jewelry vs Tatoos

Tatoos Vs Jewelry copy

Do you know what’s the hottest in fashion these days – freedom! The beauty is that you can think of the wackiest, wildest of the things, do them and be respected for your freedom of expression. This one’s a great example. My friend Stella had an allergic reaction to some metals. This allergy has resulted in a phobia for jewelry. Even if it is hypo allergic, Stel is dead scared of jewelry. So on her wedding Stel chose to be different and creative. Stel wore wedding tattoos to adorn her on her bridal day. Those were fancy temporary tattoos but believe me they looked cooler than diamonds. As if this was not enough, Stel and her hubby exchanged their wows and got tattoo wedding rings done! And you know what Ton, Stella’s husband, said while exchanging their tattoo rings, “only till death do us apart!”, and literally meant it.

Bracelets – "An accessory to adorn your wrist."

O
ne of the most popular adornments in the ancient world, a bracelet is a piece of jewelry that is worn around the wrist. The history of bracelets and their association to mysticism is an interesting lore. Different cultures across the world had different mystic associations to bracelets. Indian women wore bracelets in marriage and associated it symbolically to being married; in Rome, the most popular form of the bracelet consisted of coiled rings with snakehead ends, symbolic of the youthful forces of life. As per some jewelry experts and historians the female bracelet evolved from male warrior rings, related not only to the protection of the hand. And from there it further evolved into a major fashion accessory.

Indian Fashionable Jewelry

aii_8090                          While we are talking about jewelry, I didn’t want to miss out on the topic on which every jewelry lover’s heart melts – traditional jewelry. I love to explore history and traditions related to different cultures and their different styles of jewelry. One of my personal favorites has been Indian jewelry. The intricate craftsmanship and lovely designs are a must watch if you haven’t seen till date. The jewelry style is elaborate. Most of this jewelry is hand made making it even more special.
If you talk about the fashion trends and fashion jewelry in India, it more or less follows that traditional style but with a few modern changes. The latest fashion trend of jewelry in India is two-tone gold jewelry. The traditional yellow gold jewelry now comes with rhodium or white gold detailing. Another fashion trend combines colored gemstones and diamonds in elaborate traditional designs with a modern twist. And then there are these ageless classic ppy_7995chandelier earrings that are called “jhoomke” which happen to be my personal favorite. Its not just the traditional designs, Indian fashion jewelry has a huge variety of chic, modern designs to choose from. I simply love the versatility. You can get beyond your imagination.
I have a diamond necklace from India that is truly breath taking. So fashion has no boundaries… explore!
